Schools in Penang remain open, with all outdoor activities postponed while the haze continues, according to the state education department’s guidance reported by Bernama on Oct. 15.
At Lian Hwa, assemblies, physical education and co-curricular activities have moved indoors until further notice.
What the rules say
The Ministry of Education has said schools close if the Air Pollutant Index exceeds 180, or stays above 150 for three days. Closed schools switch to home-based learning.
On Oct. 15, all four Penang monitoring stations read below 150 at 2pm, Bernama reported.
What changes at school
Sports Day rehearsals and the lion dance team’s outdoor training are postponed. Masks are available at the school office. Students with asthma should keep their inhaler in their school bag.
