The Mid-Autumn Festival fell on Friday, Sept. 25 this year, and Lian Hwa marked it the way it has for decades: with lanterns, tea and riddles on the school field.
This year, every Junior 1 class made its own lanterns in art lessons, and parents were invited to join for the first time since 2019.
Lanterns made in class
Each Junior 1 student built a lantern from paper, bamboo strips and glue, following a design taught by the art department. The brief allowed no ready-made kits.
"Mine is a rabbit, but my mother says it looks like a cat," said Ng Hui Wen, Junior 1 Ren. "I am keeping it anyway."

Riddles and tea
The Chinese Society hung 120 lantern riddles along the corridor. Students who solved one received a small mooncake. The PTA served tea from 7pm.
