Why blue tansy oil is blue
The colour in our Night Bloom face oil is not added. It comes from a compound that forms when the flowers are distilled.

Blue tansy (Tanacetum annuum) is a small yellow-flowered plant in the daisy family that grows around the western Mediterranean. Its flowers are not blue, yet the essential oil distilled from them is a deep inky blue.
Where the colour comes from
The colour comes from chamazulene, a compound that forms from a precursor in the plant during steam distillation. German chamomile oil gets its blue tint the same way. Because the blue is part of the oil itself, it fades a little with light and age, which is one reason we bottle Night Bloom in amber glass.
Using it on skin
Blue tansy is used in skincare in small amounts within a carrier oil. Like other members of the daisy family it can cause a reaction in some people, so patch test any new product on the inner arm for 48 hours, and skip it if you are pregnant or know you react to chamomile or ragweed.
Our Night Bloom oil uses rosehip and jojoba as the base, with blue tansy and vitamin E. We describe it as a cosmetic: it is made to leave skin feeling soft and nourished.
