No-prep veneers

Are no-prep veneers right for you?

Are no-prep veneers right for you?

By Dr Elena Rowan · 10 June 2026 · 5 min read

No-prep veneers give you the durability and stain resistance of porcelain while keeping your enamel almost entirely intact. For the right smile, they are close to ideal. For the wrong one, they are a compromise — and you deserve to know which you are.

What "no-prep" actually means

Traditional veneers require the dentist to file down the front of the tooth to make room for the porcelain. No-prep veneers are made so thin — often less than half a millimetre — that they bond over the tooth with little or no filing at all. Your natural tooth stays protected underneath.

Who they suit

  • Teeth that are slightly small, narrow or worn, where we are adding rather than covering bulk.
  • Discolouration that will not respond to whitening.
  • Anyone who wants porcelain but is uneasy about drilling.

Who they do not suit

If your teeth already stick out or are quite dark, adding a layer on top can look bulky or fail to mask the colour. In those cases we would talk to you about aligners first, or conventional veneers done conservatively. We would rather tell you that at the consultation than after you have committed.

The in-house difference

Every no-prep veneer at Solene is hand-layered by our own ceramist, Tom, a few metres from the chair. That means we can adjust a shade together in minutes instead of posting a case away for a fortnight. Read more about no-prep veneers or book a consultation.
