What we would reach for
Formulations for textural irregularities
A focused shortlist from the range, chosen for this concern. The actives that do the work: glycolic acid, lactic acid, mandelic acid, retinoids.
Understanding the concern
Understanding rough texture
Rough patches, bumps and an uneven surface usually come from a build-up of dead surface cells and mild dehydration. Smoothing it is one of the more satisfying, quick wins in skincare.
Gentle chemical exfoliation lifts the dull surface, and hydration plumps what is underneath, so light bounces off evenly again.

AHAs
Glycolic and mandelic acid shed the dull, uneven surface layer to reveal smoother skin. Mandelic is gentler for sensitive skin.
PHAs
Gluconolactone resurfaces very gently while also hydrating, ideal if stronger acids irritate you.
Hydration
Hyaluronic acid and a good moisturiser plump the skin, which softens the look of rough, crepey texture.
A simple routine for texture
- PM: an AHA or PHA two to three nights a week on clean, dry skin.
- On off nights: hydrating serum and moisturiser to support the barrier.
- AM: hydration, moisturiser and sunscreen; acids make skin more sun-sensitive.
Common questions
How fast does texture improve?
Many people see smoother skin within two to four weeks of gentle, consistent exfoliation. Do not rush it by over-exfoliating.
Scrub or acid?
A chemical acid is more even and less damaging than a physical scrub, which can create micro-tears and worsen texture.
