Privacy notice (PDPA)
How we handle the personal data you share with us, under the Personal Data Protection Act 2010.
Last updated 1 July 2026.
This notice explains how Cheah Menon (“the firm”, “we”, “us”) collects, uses, discloses and protects personal data in accordance with the Personal Data Protection Act 2010 (“PDPA”).
1. Information we collect
We collect personal data you provide when you make an enquiry, instruct us, or correspond with us — including your name, contact details, employer or company, and the details of the matter you raise. Our website tools (the dispute-assessment and limitation checkers) run entirely in your browser and do not transmit or store the information you enter into them.
2. How we use it
We use personal data to respond to enquiries, carry out conflict checks, provide legal services, comply with our professional and legal obligations, and administer our relationship with you. We do not sell personal data.
3. Conflict checks and confidentiality
Before acting we run a check for conflicts of interest. Please do not send us confidential or privileged documents until we have confirmed we are able to act, as the duty of confidence and privilege are best protected once an engagement is established.
4. Disclosure
We may disclose personal data to third parties where necessary to act on your matter (for example counsel, experts, the courts or an arbitral institution), to our professional indemnity insurers and advisers, or where required by law or the rules of the Malaysian Bar.
5. Retention & security
We retain files and personal data for as long as necessary for the matter and to meet our professional, regulatory and limitation-related obligations, after which they are securely destroyed. We apply appropriate safeguards to protect personal data in our custody.
6. Your rights
Subject to the PDPA, you may request access to or correction of your personal data, or raise a concern about how it is handled, by writing to us at clerk@cheahmenon.my.
