Stained or discoloured teeth
Teeth dull and yellow with age, and stain from coffee, tea, red wine and tobacco. Sometimes the colour is on the surface; sometimes it is in the tooth itself — and the right fix depends on which.
Where the colour is coming from
Surface and age-related staining lifts beautifully with supervised whitening. Deeper, banded or single-dark-tooth discolouration — often from old root treatments or trauma — may need bonding or a veneer to mask, because whitening only lifts natural colour and cannot change a dead tooth or existing dental work.
The gentle route first
We almost always start with the least invasive option that works. For most people that is whitening; where it will not reach, a little composite bonding is usually kinder than porcelain. We will tell you honestly what your colour will and will not do.
About stained or discoloured teeth
Will whitening fix all discolouration?
It lifts natural tooth colour wonderfully but cannot change crowns, veneers, fillings or a single dead tooth. Where it will not reach, we mask with bonding or a veneer.
Is whitening safe for my enamel?
Yes — supervised whitening at the correct strength does not harm enamel. Any sensitivity is temporary and we manage it.
