How to choose an LED face mask
Six questions to ask of any mask, ours included, plus what masks cost right now.
Does it publish exact wavelengths?
Look for numbers, such as 633 nm and 830 nm, not just colors. Without them you cannot compare against published studies.
Is it FDA-cleared, and can you check it?
Ask for the 510(k) number (K plus six digits) and look it up in the FDA database. Cleared is not the same as approved. What clearance means.
Has it been tested for eye safety?
IEC 62471 is the international photobiological safety standard. Eyewear should come in the box.
How long is a session, and is it cordless?
Shorter, cordless sessions are easier to keep up. A mask you skip does nothing.
What does it say about deeper skin tones?
A responsible brand says who should check with a dermatologist first. Silence is a warning sign.
What are the return window and warranty?
Results take weeks. Look for at least a 30-day return window and a warranty of a year or more.
