How to fit a travel backpack
The right fit makes a packed bag feel lighter. Five steps, about ten minutes, done once.

Measure your torso
Find the bone that sticks out at the base of your neck. Have a friend measure down your spine to the top of your hip bones. That is your torso length, and it tells you where the straps should sit.

Pack it like a real trip
A bag only tells you how it carries when it is loaded. Pack your laptop in the sleeve and roughly the clothes you would take, then put it on.

Adjust the shoulder straps
Pull the strap webbing so the top of the bag sits just below your neck and the bottom rests above your waist. The bag should sit close to your back, not hang off it.

Clip the sternum strap
Slide the sternum strap to just below your collarbone and clip it. It pulls the straps in so they do not slip off your shoulders on stairs.

Walk around the block
Walk for a few minutes. If you feel pressure on the front of your shoulders, loosen the straps slightly. If the bag sways, tighten them. Small changes make a big difference.
