Founded by two doctors who were tired of how this industry sells
In 2013, Dr. Adeline Khoo and Dr. Marcus Tan opened a single clinic in Pulau Tikus with a rule that still governs all 8: the person recommending your treatment must earn nothing extra from your spending. 13 years and 312,000+ treatments later, the rule hasn’t bent once.

Our story, briefly
Avelia began as a neighbourhood GP practice with a small aesthetic room at the back. The founders — colleagues from their housemanship days at Hospital Pulau Pinang — had both watched patients arrive with complications from treatments they were talked into at beauty chains: burned skin from salon “lasers”, lumpy fillers injected by non-doctors, thousands of ringgit sunk into packages that were never going to work.
The response was a clinic built on three structural decisions. Doctors on salary, never commission. Prices published in full, in public. And a treatment menu limited to what evidence supports — reviewed annually, with treatments removed when the data disappoints. That third rule is why you won’t find certain fashionable procedures here, and why patients who ask about them get a straight explanation instead of a booking.
Growth came slowly and by referral: Bayan Baru in 2015, the mainland in 2017, KL in 2018, and most recently Johor in 2024. Every new branch opens with a named medical director accountable for its standards, and every doctor completes 400 supervised hours in our Pulau Tikus training clinic before treating independently.
The doctors who set the standard
Every physician below holds full MMC registration, and every aesthetic physician holds the Ministry of Health’s LCP in Aesthetic Medicine. Registration numbers are listed because you should be able to check.

Dr. Adeline Khoo Li-Wen
Adeline co-founded Klinik Avelia in 2013 after seven years in public dermatology postings at Hospital Pulau Pinang. She leads the group’s clinical protocols, chairs the internal audit committee, and still consults four days a week at Pulau Tikus. Special interests: melasma in darker skin types, and combination laser protocols.

Dr. Marcus Tan Wei Sheng
Marcus built Avelia’s doctor-training pathway: every physician completes 400 supervised hours before treating independently. He oversees device procurement and safety audits across all eight clinics, and consults at Pulau Tikus on Tuesdays and Fridays. Special interests: injectable anatomy and complication management.

Dr. Nurul Aisyah binti Hamzah
Nurul leads our KL flagship and the group’s pigmentation clinic. She lectures on laser safety for the Malaysian Society of Aesthetic Medicine’s CPD series and has delivered over 9,000 laser sessions. Special interests: melasma, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, and skin of colour.

Dr. Priya Raghavan
Priya runs the group’s GP, panel and screening services, and designed our corporate health packages used by 60+ employer panels. She consults at Damansara Uptown daily. Special interests: preventive cardiology screening and women’s health.

Dr. Jonathan Yeap Kai Jin
Jonathan heads our Ipoh clinic and the group’s hair restoration centre. He completed Avelia’s in-house fellowship in 2019 and now trains junior physicians in trichoscopy and scalp procedures. Special interests: androgenetic alopecia and scalp micro-needling protocols.

Dr. Sarah Lim Hui Ying
Sarah opened our Johor flagship in 2024 and runs its skin and laser centre. She sees a large cross-border clientele and consults in English, Mandarin and Bahasa Melayu. Special interests: acne in humid climates and laser hair removal for darker skin.

Alongside our clinical leadership, 22 more physicians practise across the group — a selection below — supported by 46 clinical therapists trained through our internal academy.

Small print we’re proud of
- Products opened in front of you. Injectable vials are unsealed at the chair, and batch numbers recorded in your file.
- Complication drills, annually. Every injector re-certifies in complication management each year — and hyaluronidase is stocked at all 8 branches.
- Audited outcomes. Dr. Marcus’s standards team audits treatment records and outcome photos across branches every quarter.
- Honest referrals out. Beyond our scope — surgical cases, complex dermatology, transplants — we refer to named specialists and say so early.
