Can you use retinol with an LED mask?

Yes, for most people, if you get the order right. Light first on clean skin, retinoid after.

LED masks do not emit ultraviolet light, so they are not the same as sun exposure. Many dermatologists are comfortable with patients using a retinoid and an LED mask in the same routine. The detail that matters is the order.

The order that works

  1. Cleanse and pat skin dry. Light reaches bare skin best, without a film of product in the way.
  2. Run your mask session.
  3. Apply your retinoid, then moisturizer.

When to pause

When in doubt, introduce one change at a time. If you start a retinoid and a mask in the same week and your skin reacts, you will not know which one caused it.
