The business can’t run without you
Two weeks off means two hundred WhatsApps. Every holiday is a half-holiday. You built something real — and it has quietly built a cage around you.
This is the most common state we find owners in, and the most fixable. Owner-dependence is not a personality flaw; it is an accounting problem. Somewhere along the way, staying involved in everything was the cheapest option — and nobody re-did the sums when it stopped being true. The fix is structural, not motivational: decisions need owners who are not you, knowledge needs to live in systems rather than your head, and your team needs a rhythm that surfaces problems before they reach your phone.
First moves — before you spend a pound on coaching
- Take the Owner Dependency Index — see which of the five dimensions leans on you hardest
- List every decision you made last week; mark the ones only you could legally have made (it is usually fewer than five)
- Install a Weekly Helm so questions batch into one meeting instead of forty interruptions
If you do those and the wall moves, brilliant — you may not need us. If it moves and then moves back (this is common; structure decays without rhythm), that is the moment coaching earns its fee.
