About the firm
A firm built around one idea: clarity
That the people you love should never have to guess what you wanted — and never have to fight to find out.
Twenty years of settling Malaysian estates
Cheong, Rashid & Devan began in 2004 as Cheong & Company, a small wills-and-probate practice in Bukit Damansara founded by Josephine Cheong. Over two decades it grew into a full private-client firm — but the idea never changed: help families plan carefully, and help the next generation administer well.
In 2011, Rashid bin Othman joined, bringing Islamic estate planning and a Peguam Syarie’s practice, and the firm became Cheong & Rashid. In 2016, Devan a/l Krishnan joined to lead trusts, tax and business succession, completing the partnership as Cheong, Rashid & Devan.
Today we are a team of twelve — three partners, three lawyers and six client-care and estate-administration staff — deliberately small and senior, so the person you meet is the person who looks after your matter.
Civil and Islamic, under one roof
Malaysia runs two systems of inheritance, and many families touch both. We built the firm to handle both properly: a civil team for wills, trusts and probate, and an Islamic estate practice led by a Peguam Syarie for faraid, wasiat, hibah and wakaf — working together where an estate spans the two.
How we think about this work
Estate planning is quiet, unglamorous and easy to postpone. It is also one of the kindest things you can do for the people you love. We try to make it calm and clear: plain language, fixed fees agreed up front, and no pressure to buy anything you do not need.
Recognition & standing
Judged by our peers, not by our own praise
Malaysia’s Publicity Rules do not allow law firms to publish client testimonials or call themselves “the best”. So we let independent directories, professional bodies and our clients’ continued trust speak instead.
“The firm is recognised for its work on complex, cross-border and contested estates.”
Chambers High Net Worth — Private Wealth Law, Malaysia
“Noted for private client, trusts and estate administration, with strength in Islamic estate planning.”
The Legal 500 — Private Client
