Most firms do employment law as a department. We do it as the entire practice — and have since 2011.

Why a firm would choose to act for both sides

Faiza Loke & Sivam was founded in 2011 on an observation from opposite ends of the same courtroom: Faiza Kamaruddin had spent years acting for dismissed employees, Loke Wei Sheng had spent them advising the companies doing the dismissing — and each kept winning cases the other side should never have lost. The lesson was not that one side was right. It was that employment disputes are decided by process and paper, and whoever understands the other side's playbook holds the advantage.

So we built the firm to hold both playbooks. The employee desk fights dismissals; the employer desk builds the files that survive them. Sivam Krishnan, who joined as name partner in 2014, tries the references either way. Every new matter passes a conflict check before a lawyer so much as opens the file — and where we cannot act, we say so the same day.

How we work

Three habits define the practice. Assessments before engagements: every matter starts with a fixed-fee working session — RM 480, up to ninety minutes — that ends with the deadline, the merits and the next step in writing, including when the honest advice is "don't proceed". Fees in writing before each stage: our fee guide is published, and estimates are confirmed before work begins, not discovered after it. Both languages of the dispute: the statute and the shop floor — advice is delivered in Bahasa Malaysia, English, Mandarin or Tamil, at whatever altitude the room needs.
