Questions

The questions people actually ask

Before you start, about confidentiality, about how the work runs, and about money. If yours is not here, ask us — we answer email in a day.

Before you start

What happens on a chemistry call?

Thirty minutes, free, no sponsor in the room, with up to three coaches. You describe the situation, they push back on some of it, and you find out how it feels to be disagreed with by that person. You choose the coach. We never assign one.

How quickly can we start?

Chemistry calls are usually offered inside a week. Contracting takes a further week if your procurement is straightforward, and Nathan will tell you honestly on day one whether yours is.

Do you work outside Minneapolis?

Yes. About half our engagements run entirely on video, and we have clients in eleven states. We do not charge travel for video sessions, obviously, and we quote travel at cost when you want us in the room.

Can I engage you privately, without my employer?

Yes. Roughly one engagement in six is self-funded. There is no sponsor, no reporting line and no readout — the confidentiality question simply disappears. Fees are the same.

Confidentiality

What does my sponsor actually see?

Attendance, progress against the two or three shifts in the Working Contract, and themes at the mid-point and close. Not what you said, not attributed stakeholder material, not your psychometric results.

What are the exceptions?

Risk of serious harm, and legal compulsion. That is the complete list, it is stated in the three-way contracting session, and neither has arisen in this practice.

If I am thinking about leaving, can I say so?

Yes, and many leaders do. It is not reported. Coaching is frequently the only place that question can be tested properly, and a practice that leaked it would be worthless to everyone including the sponsor.

Who sees the stakeholder interviews?

Your coach conducts them and themes them. You see the themed read first. Your sponsor sees only the themes that also appear in the readout, and no interview is ever attributed to a named person.

How the work runs

How long is an engagement?

Six months for a Director or VP, nine for an SVP or C-suite leader, four for a transition. Our average is 8.4 months. We do not sell six-session packages; behaviour does not move in six sessions and selling it would be dishonest.

How often do we meet?

Fortnightly, ninety minutes. Between-session contact — a call before a board meeting, a text after a difficult conversation — is included rather than billed.

Can I change coach?

Once, in the first two months, with no fee and no explanation required. It happens about twice a year.

Do you use psychometrics?

Where they add something: Hogan, Leadership Circle Profile, EQ-i 2.0, MBTI. Always with a certified administrator and a live debrief, always for development, and never for selection or promotion decisions. The results belong to you.

What if it is not working?

We raise it at the mid-point review, in front of the sponsor, and stopping is an option we put on the table ourselves. We have ended four engagements early. Three of them we refunded in part.

Fees and contracting

Why do you publish fees?

Because everybody else in this market hides them, and the first thing a serious buyer wants to know is whether they are in the right room. Our fees are on the site, in full, with what is and is not included.

Is there a discount for multiple leaders?

Yes — five per cent from the third concurrent engagement in the same organisation, ten per cent from the sixth. It is applied automatically, not negotiated.

How do you invoice?

Fifty per cent on countersignature, fifty at the mid-point, net 30. Cohort programmes invoice per participant in advance of the first session.

What paperwork will procurement need?

W-9, certificate of insurance ($2m professional, $1m general), our standard MSA or yours, and a completed vendor security questionnaire. We hold no client systems access and keep session notes in an encrypted US-hosted store.

What is your cancellation policy?

Sessions rescheduled with more than 48 hours' notice cost nothing, twice per engagement. Beyond that a missed session is a used session — a rule that exists to protect your calendar from your own organisation.
