Collection No. 06 — The frame
Teeth are the picture; gums are the frame. A millimetre or two of recontouring often changes a smile more than any porcelain can.
Under local anaesthetic, excess gum tissue is reshaped with a soft-tissue laser to reveal the tooth length that was always there. The laser seals as it works, so most patients describe the recovery as “mild aching for two days” rather than anything requiring time off. Where the bone line itself sits low, a surgical crown-lengthening referral is the honest answer — we will tell you which case you are at the consultation, not after.
Contouring is most often staged three weeks before veneers (as in Case No. 078), so the new frame is healed and stable before ceramics are designed to it.
The procedure itself, no — you are numb. Expect two to three days of tenderness managed with paracetamol.
Tissue removed with correct technique does not regrow. If the underlying bone dictates the gum line, contouring alone will relapse — which is why we assess bone position first.
Usually, which means GST may apply and health funds rarely contribute — your itemised quote states this plainly.
