Whitening before a wedding: the timeline that actually works

Wedding whitening has a failure mode: done too late, teeth are at peak sensitivity and peak dehydration-white on the day itself — then relapse two shades in the honeymoon photos taken a week later. The fix is simply scheduling.
The ideal: twelve weeks out
Week one: hygiene visit, because whitening over plaque wastes gel on the wrong chemistry. Weeks two to four: in-chair session plus take-home trays, reaching your target with time to manage sensitivity gently. Weeks five to ten: the shade settles into its true, stable value. Final week: a single overnight tray top-up. What photographs at the altar is the settled colour, not a temporary chemical brightness.
The compressed version: two to four weeks
Skip nothing but the leisure: hygiene immediately, in-chair session within the week, trays nightly, stop three days before the wedding so dehydration whiteness has rehydrated and any sensitivity is gone. It works; it is simply less forgiving of sensitive teeth.
What we refuse to do
Whiten two days before. You would glow for the ceremony and relapse on the honeymoon, and your photographer deserves better source material. We also sequence whitening before any front-tooth bonding or porcelain — restorations don’t whiten, so they must be matched to the final shade, not the hopeful one. Brides with bonded edges: that refresh appointment goes after the whitening, three weeks out.
