01Why a board
Running a company is the loneliest job most owners will ever have: you can’t tell staff everything, your partner has heard enough, and your mates think “busy is good”. The Boardroom is the room where eleven other people have carried the same weight — and have no stake in flattering you.
02How meetings run
Morning: numbers round (everyone, five minutes, no hiding) and a working topic led by the chair — pricing, hiring, cash, succession. Afternoon: two hot seats. The member presents the real problem, the board asks questions until the actual problem surfaces (it is rarely the presented one), then options, then a decision, minuted.
03Who is in the room
Three groups currently run — 34 seats filled across manufacturing, trades, agencies, professional services, hospitality and distribution, turnover £800k to £12m. Membership is by application and a conversation with the chair; we balance each group for sector, size and temperament, and competitors are never seated together.
04The commitment
£495 per month plus VAT, one day per month, minimum six-month commitment then rolling. Miss two consecutive meetings without cause and the chair will offer your seat to the waiting list — the group only works if the group turns up.
PROGRAMME QUESTIONS
Asked before joining
Is my information safe?
Every member signs the same confidentiality deed on joining, and competing businesses are never placed in the same group. What is said in the room stays in the room; that culture is enforced by the chair.
I’m too busy for a full day a month.
That is usually the strongest sign you need the day. Members consistently rate the board day their highest-leverage day of the month — 92% renew past year one.
Can I visit before joining?
Yes — applicants sit in on one meeting as a guest (hot seats excluded) before either side commits.
