THE OWNER'S TRAP

You didn't start a company to become its most overworked employee.

Somewhere between the first hire and the last tax return, the business quietly reorganised itself around you. Every price, every rota, every awkward call — yours. Turnover grew; your hourly rate didn't. The holiday keeps not happening.

It isn't a character flaw and it isn't rare: it is the default setting of every owner-managed company, and it has a known fix. Structure, priced work, a second tier, and someone outside the business holding you to all three.

  • Working on the business gets diarised — or it never happens
  • Margin is rebuilt before marketing is even discussed
  • Delegation happens by written standard, not by hoping

THE FELLSIDE METHOD

Four stages. Ninety-day legs.
No guru talk.

The same route every engagement walks — mapped in week one, reviewed every quarter, and built so that each stage survives contact with a real Tuesday.

  1. 01

Survey — Know the ground you’re standing on

Every engagement starts with the Terrain Survey and a long, honest conversation. Numbers on the table: margin by job, sales pipeline, who does what, and how many hours a week the business takes from you. No plan survives a wrong map.

  2. 02

Route — Pick the line, not just the summit

A 12-month destination, broken into 90-day legs with three priorities each — never ten. You’ll know exactly which lever we’re pulling first (usually margin, not marketing) and what we’re deliberately ignoring.

  3. 03

Climb — Fortnightly rhythm, relentless accountability

Coaching sessions every two weeks with your numbers reviewed first, decisions minuted, and actions carried forward until they’re done. Between sessions your coach is a phone call away. This is where most of the +31% comes from.

  4. 04

Cairn — Mark progress, then raise the next objective

Each quarter closes with a review against the numbers we set — profit, hours, team scorecards — and a rest-day: what did the climb cost you personally? Then we stack the next cairn and go again.

The Profit Levers calculator

Five numbers run your profit: leads, conversion, average sale, repeat purchases, margin. Improve each a little and the effect compounds. Put your own numbers in and watch.

YOUR NUMBERS TODAY

WHAT COMPOUNDING DOES

Annual revenue now£—
Annual gross profit now£—
Gross profit after five small lifts£—
Extra gross profit, every year£—

A 10% lift on each lever grows gross profit by 61% — that is the compounding most owners never see written down.

“Nobody climbs a fell by staring at the summit. You pick the next cairn, walk to it, and look up again.”

COACHED BY OPERATORS, NOT THEORISTS

Every Fellside coach ran a real company first.

“Owners don’t need motivating. They need a map, a rhythm, and someone who’ll say the awkward thing out loud.”

Neil Garside — Founder & Head Coach. Grew a Bolton corrugated-packaging manufacturer to £8.4m and sold it in 2010. Founded Fellside two years later because every coach he’d met talked theory.

IN THEIR WORDS

What clients say when we're not in the room

★★★★★

“Martin made us put the prices up 8% in month one. I argued for a fortnight. Not one customer left, and that single call paid for three years of coaching.”

Dave PadleyManaging Director, Padley Heating & Plumbing
★★★★★

“The Boardroom is the only room I’m in where nobody wants anything from me. Eleven other owners who’ve seen my numbers and still ask the hardest questions I get asked all month.”

Rachel OkonkwoFounder, Brightwater Creative
★★★★★

“I took my first two-week holiday in nine years last summer. Phone off. The business grew while I was away, which honestly took some getting over.”

QUESTIONS OWNERS ACTUALLY ASK

Straight answers first

What does business coaching actually involve?

Structured, regular working sessions built around your numbers and a 90-day plan — not motivational chats. Your coach reviews your figures before every session, one real problem gets worked each time, decisions are minuted and actions carried forward until done. See the Fellside Method for the full arc.

How much does it cost?

One-to-One coaching is £850/month, the Boardroom is £495/month, Kickstart 90 is £2,950 one-off, workshops from £95 — all plus VAT, all on the pricing page. No 12-month tie-ins on coaching; three months’ notice either way.

How is a coach different from a consultant?

A consultant does the work for you and leaves with the know-how. A coach builds the discipline in you and your team, so it stays. We’re deliberately the second kind — though our coaches’ operator backgrounds mean sessions get very specific, very quickly.

Is coaching regulated? What are your qualifications?

Coaching is unregulated in the UK, which is why voluntary accreditation matters. Fellside is an EMCC organisational member; individual coaches hold EMCC (Practitioner/Senior Practitioner), ICF (ACC/PCC) and ILM Level 5–7 credentials — listed on each coach’s page — alongside the thing we hired them for: having run real companies.
