Occupational health for employers
We look after around forty Edinburgh employers, most between fifteen and three hundred people.
Why smaller employers come to us
Large occupational health providers are built for organisations with a thousand staff. If you have forty, you get a portal, a call centre and a report six weeks later from someone who has never spoken to you.
You get one clinician who knows your business and one administrator who answers the phone. Management referral reports come back within five working days, usually three.

Confidentiality
Why the employee reads the report first
A management referral report goes to the manager only with the employee’s written consent, and only after the employee has read it. That is the GMC position. It is also the only arrangement under which staff tell a clinician the truth.
The report answers your questions — fitness for the role, likely timescales, adjustments worth making. It does not contain the clinical detail behind them. Managers sometimes find that frustrating, and it is exactly why the answers are worth having.
We will decline to write something we cannot properly say, and we will tell you why in plain words.

FAQs
Employers: common questions
What is the minimum size of organisation you work with?
We work with employers from about eight people upwards. Below that, individual health checks or ad hoc management referrals usually make more sense than a contract, and we will say so.
How fast are management referral reports returned?
Within five working days of the appointment, and usually three. If a case is complex enough to need longer we tell you on the day of the appointment rather than at the deadline.
Do you come to our premises?
For flu clinics, workplace health checks and travel briefings, yes, anywhere in Edinburgh and the Lothians. Management referrals and pre-placement assessments are done here, because they need an examination room.
Who sees the medical information?
The clinician, and nobody else. A management referral report goes to the referring manager only with the employee's written consent and only after they have seen it, which is both the GMC position and, in our experience, the only way the process retains any credibility with staff.
