The menopause clinic runs on Tuesdays and Thursdays with Dr Priya Anand, who holds the Advanced Certificate in Menopause Care.
Perimenopause is a clinical diagnosis made from a pattern, not from a blood test — and in women over 45 the guidance is explicit that hormone levels are usually unhelpful. A great deal of the work here is undoing tests that were done for the wrong reason and explaining what the symptoms actually mean.
She prescribes HRT readily where it is appropriate and declines it where it is not, and she will tell you which of those two she thinks you are and why.

Priya leads our women's health service and holds the Advanced Certificate in Menopause Care. She runs the menopause clinic on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and takes referrals from the other GPs here when a hormonal picture is complicated.

FAQs
If you are over 45 with typical symptoms, generally no — national guidance advises against relying on FSH testing in that group. Under 45, or with an atypical picture, blood tests do matter and we will do them.
Often yes. We write a full letter setting out the diagnosis, the regimen and the monitoring plan, which is what an NHS colleague needs in order to take it on.
In selected cases, for persistent low sexual desire where HRT alone has not helped, with baseline and follow-up levels. It is prescribed off-licence for women in the UK and we explain what that means before you decide.
There is a real non-hormonal toolkit — including cognitive behavioural therapy for hot flushes and sleep, and specific non-hormonal medication — and we go through it properly rather than as a consolation prize.
