A standard NHS appointment is ten minutes. Ours is thirty, and the first one is forty-five. That is not a comfort feature. It is the amount of time it takes to hear a full history, examine you properly, and explain what happens next without anyone watching the clock.
You see the same GP each time unless you ask otherwise. If you need bloods, they are taken in this building, usually in the same visit. If you need a scan or a specialist, we arrange it and tell you what it costs before you agree to it.

What happens
Book
Choose a time on the Same-Week Board or phone reception. You do not need to be registered with us first.
Before you come
We send a short history form. Filling it in is optional but it buys you back ten minutes of the appointment.
The appointment
History, examination, and a plan you understand. Bloods taken here if needed.
Afterwards
Written summary the same day. Results usually within 48 hours, with a call to explain anything abnormal.

Elspeth trained in Edinburgh and spent eleven years as a partner in an NHS Lothian practice in the north of the city before opening Ravelston Health in 2013. She started it for a simple reason: she was tired of ten-minute appointments and of telling people the wait for a scan would be measured in months.

Private GP: common questions
Do I have to leave my NHS GP?
No. Most of our patients keep their NHS practice and use us alongside it. We write to your NHS GP after appointments, with your consent, so your NHS record stays complete.
Can you prescribe?
Yes, on a private prescription, which you take to any community pharmacy. We do not dispense on site. Private prescriptions are charged by the pharmacy at the cost of the drug plus their fee, so it is worth asking the price if the medicine is unusual.
Will you refer me on the NHS?
Sometimes, yes — where an NHS pathway is the right one and you want it, we can write the referral. We will be honest about the likely wait.
What if I need to be seen urgently?
Our same-day clinic runs every weekday morning and afternoon. If you need emergency care, call 999 or NHS 24 on 111 — we are not an emergency service.
