A full screen takes about fifteen minutes and most of it is paperwork. Results come back in two to three working days.

You can book a screen without a consultation if you have no symptoms and just want testing. If you do have symptoms, book a consultation — a swab without an examination misses things.

Everything here is confidential in the ordinary clinical sense. Certain infections are notifiable to public health, and we will tell you clearly if that applies to a result of yours.

Usually here, same week. Complex cases go to the specialist NHS service, which is genuinely better at them.

Priya leads our women's health service and holds the Advanced Certificate in Menopause Care. She runs the menopause clinic on Tuesdays and Thursdays, and takes referrals from the other GPs here when a hormonal picture is complicated.

Sexual health: common questions

How soon after exposure can I test?

Chlamydia and gonorrhoea from two weeks. HIV and syphilis blood tests are reliable from six weeks, and a negative earlier than that needs repeating. We will tell you when to come back.

Is it confidential?

Yes, in the ordinary clinical sense. We do not write to your NHS GP about sexual health testing unless you ask us to.

Do you provide PrEP?

We do not run a PrEP service. NHS sexual health services in Lothian provide it free, and we will point you straight there rather than charging you for a worse version.
