Travel health and vaccinations

Travel vaccinations and country-by-country advice. Book six to eight weeks before you go.

First floor · from £55

Fiona McAllister built this service and keeps its country protocols current, which in practice means reading the national travel health guidance every month and rewriting our advice when it changes.

A travel consultation covers vaccines, malaria prevention, altitude, food and water, insect bite avoidance, and what to do if you become unwell abroad. If you are going somewhere ordinary for two weeks, it is short. If you are going to be in rural west Africa for three months, it is not.

Book six to eight weeks before you travel where you can. Some courses take a month to complete. If you are leaving on Friday, come anyway — there is almost always something worth doing.

Travel consultation · £55, waived if you have two or more vaccines with us. Vaccines charged individually.

Step by step

What happens

  1. Tell us the itinerary

Countries, regions, rural or urban, dates, and what you will be doing. Rural changes the answer.

  2. Risk assessment

We check current guidance for each destination on the day, not from memory.

  3. Vaccines

Given the same visit where possible; courses scheduled around your departure date.

  4. Written plan

What to take, what to avoid, and what to do if you get ill out there.

FAQs

Travel health: common questions

How far in advance should I come?

Six to eight weeks is ideal. Some vaccines need more than one dose spaced weeks apart, and rabies in particular takes time.

Do you do yellow fever?

Yes — we are a registered yellow fever centre and can issue the international certificate.

Are travel vaccines free on the NHS?

A few are, most are not, and NHS practices vary in what they offer. We list our prices in full on the fees page so you can compare.

Can you prescribe malaria tablets?

Yes, matched to the resistance pattern of the specific region you are visiting, not the country as a whole.
