ROAS Calculator: Calculate Revenue Returned for Every Ad Dollar

Seed Light built this free ROAS calculator to show what each unit of ad spend brings back in attributed revenue. It covers Google, Meta and TikTok, and shows whether the return clears break even.

Enter ad spend and the revenue behind it, and get your return, cost per sale and contribution.

Your ad account numbers

One platform, one period. Google, Meta or TikTok.

The conversion value your ad platform reports, on whatever attribution setting it is using.

Orders, bookings or closed jobs.

Out of every 100 in sales, what is left after the variable cost of fulfilling the order and before any advertising.

The maths

How this calculator works

  1. 01

    Attributed revenue divided by spend

That is ROAS, and it is a multiple rather than a percentage. Four times means four units of attributed revenue for every one you spend on media.

  2. 02

    Your margin sets the bar

One hundred divided by your margin gives the ROAS you need just to break even. A forty percent margin needs two and a half times before you make anything.

  3. 03

Cost per sale keeps you honest

Spend divided by the number of sales. It is the figure that tells you whether a rising ROAS came from real efficiency or from a few unusually large orders.

  4. 04

    Contribution is the point

Attributed revenue multiplied by your contribution margin, with the media spend taken off. That is estimated contribution after media spend, not company profit, because overheads, fees and tools sit outside it.

A worked example

An online store runs a Meta campaign for a month. Its contribution margin is forty in every hundred, so it needs two and a half times before the campaign contributes anything at all. Example only. Replace these assumptions with your own numbers.

Common questions

Common questions about the calculation and how to use the result.

There is no single good number, because it depends entirely on your margin. A store keeping seventy in each hundred is profitable at one and a half times.

The ad platform may claim revenue using its own attribution rules, while the accounts record completed sales and adjustments. Compare the same date range, remove cancelled or refunded orders and note any sales that cannot be linked to one campaign.

Usually no. Standard ROAS divides attributed sales by media spend only. Include agency fees when assessing total marketing return instead.

ROAS can fall after a budget increase when the earlier spend already reached the people most likely to buy. Review the change against your account figures and setup to see whether the added budget reached a broader audience that returned less revenue per unit of spend.
