About the role

This is the writing that has a number attached. A landing page that has to produce calls, an ad that has to earn a click, a homepage that has to explain a business in one screen.

Most of the job happens before the writing: working out who is reading, what they are worried about, and what the business is actually better at. The words come out of that rather than out of a tone of voice document.

Responsibilities

• Write landing pages, homepages and service pages built to produce enquiries
• Write ad copy for search and social, in sets so the angles can be tested
• Write the sales emails and the sequences behind an offer
• Interview a client for long enough to find what makes them different
• Rewrite copy that says nothing, which is most of what clients arrive with

Requirements

• Work you can show that had a job to do, and did it
• You can write short. Cutting is most of the craft
• You understand an offer well enough to argue with it
• You write for the reader rather than for the client who approves it
• You can take an edit, and a result that disagrees with your favourite line

Useful, not required

• You have written copy that ran as paid advertising with real budget behind it
• You have worked on a page you were able to test rather than only publish
• You can write for both a trade business and a premium brand without one voice for both

Tools

Google Docs, Figma, GA4, Hotjar or Clarity, Meta Ads Manager. The licences and subscriptions the job needs are paid for, and knowing every one of these already is not expected.

Your first three months

• Month 1. Page and ad copy against existing briefs, edited closely on structure.
• Month 2. You run the client conversation yourself and write from it.
• Month 3. You own the copy on new builds and the offers behind the campaigns.
