About the role

The sites here are judged on whether they produce calls and forms, so design starts from what the page has to do and what the visitor is deciding, then moves to how it looks.

You design the phone layout first, so the smallest screen gets the clearest version of the page, and you stay involved through the build so the live page matches the file.

This role is open on a rolling basis, so applications are read as they arrive rather than after a closing date.

People in this role work on Seed Light's Web Design & Development projects.

Responsibilities

  • Design pages from a written brief, starting with the phone layout
  • Build the design in WordPress, or hand a clean file to a developer
  • Work inside the client brand, or set one up when there is none
  • Check the built page against the design and list what is off
  • Take feedback and turn it around quickly

Requirements

  • A portfolio of live sites we can open
  • Strong typography and layout, plus a good sense of colour
  • You can explain why a page is laid out the way it is
  • Comfortable in Figma. Basic HTML and CSS help
  • You design the empty, loading and error states, not only the full one

Nice to have

  • You have taken a design through client revisions and kept it intact
  • You have built in a page builder such as Elementor
  • You can write simple motion or interaction notes

Tools

Figma, WordPress, Elementor, Tailwind CSS, Photoshop, Google Fonts. The licences and subscriptions the job needs are paid for, and knowing every one of these already is not expected.

Your first three months

  • Month 1. Page designs inside an existing client brand, reviewed together before build.
  • Month 2. You design a full site from the brief, and sit in the client review call.
  • Month 3. You set the design direction on new projects and write the briefs the build follows.

The web designer role owns how a marketing site looks and how it sells. The UI/UX designer role owns how a product works: the flow, the structure and the screens behind a login.

Building websites as well as designing them is helpful, and some projects involve both, but development skills are not required for the web designer role. Your application should explain how you turn a design into a working site so Seed Light can understand your approach to the handover and build stages.

Some of it. Small businesses often arrive with a logo and nothing else, so setting type, colour and spacing rules is part of the job on those projects.

Each website follows the client's visual style. Seed Light's own look is not applied to client work, so review the client's existing brand and use it as the starting point for the design unless the brief includes changing that visual direction.

Yes, you join review calls for work you designed, present your decisions and hear the client response directly. That usually resolves feedback faster for the team.

Two revision rounds are normal on most projects, with the number written down and scoped at the start. Choose a relevant work sample that shows how you handled revisions, the judgement you applied and what you learned from the process.

Send three live sites and add one line on the problem you solved for each. If a project has not launched, label it clearly and share the design or build file.
