Open role
WebsitesAlso advertised as: WordPress engineer, Theme developer, PHP developer
You build and maintain WordPress sites: custom themes, small plugins, and the fixes live sites need. The role is remote, worked from anywhere in Malaysia, with the option of time in the Pulau Pinang studio. Apply with the form on this page, and you get an answer either way.
About the role
Most clients here run WordPress, so this role owns it properly: themes built for the design rather than bought and bent into shape, small plugins for the things a client actually needs, and the ongoing care that keeps a live site working.
The work includes inherited sites. A good part of the job is opening a build somebody else made, working out what it does, and making it safe to change.
The licences and subscriptions the job needs are paid for. Knowing every one of these already is not expected.
The work
The first three months
Written down so the job is concrete before you apply, and so there is something to measure the first quarter against.
Maintenance and fixes across the live client sites, so you learn the estate.
You build a theme for a new client site, from the design file to launch.
You own the WordPress standards here: how sites are set up, updated and handed over.
Hiring
Four steps, two weeks end to end, and an answer either way.
Fill in the form with your CV and three things you have worked on, with one line each on what you did.
How you work, what you have shipped, and what you want to be doing next year.
A small real brief, so we both see what working together is like. We pay for it.
Yes or no, with a reason either way.
