About the role

This is the generalist search role. You hold a handful of accounts, decide what each one needs next, and do most of it yourself: keyword work, the on-page changes that follow, the local profile, and the monthly report.

The reporting matters as much as the work. Clients here are told what changed and what it produced, in calls and forms rather than in ranking screenshots.

This role is open on a rolling basis, so applications are read as they arrive rather than after a closing date.

People in this role work on Seed Light's SEO projects.

Responsibilities

  • Own search for a set of client accounts, and decide what each needs next
  • Keyword research, then the on-page work that follows it
  • Google Business Profile setup and the ongoing local work
  • Brief writers, and check what comes back against the brief
  • Report monthly on calls and forms, and say what changes next

Requirements

  • You have ranked something and can show the before and the after
  • You know Search Console and a tool such as Ahrefs or Semrush
  • You understand schema, site speed and how Google crawls a site
  • You can brief a writer clearly
  • You can hold a client call and explain a flat month honestly

Nice to have

  • You have worked on a site that was hit by an algorithm update
  • You have run search for a business with several locations
  • You have used GA4 beyond the default reports

Tools

Search Console, GA4, Ahrefs or Semrush, Google Business Profile, Screaming Frog, Looker Studio. The licences and subscriptions the job needs are paid for, and knowing every one of these already is not expected.

Your first three months

  • Month 1. You take two existing accounts, learn their history, and run the monthly work.
  • Month 2. You run the client calls on those accounts and set the next quarter of work.
  • Month 3. You hold your own set of accounts and shape what gets sold on new ones.

Questions about this role

Questions candidates usually ask before applying. If yours is not here, add it to the message box on the form.

The SEO specialist role owns the account and the outcome across everything. The technical SEO role goes deep on crawling, indexing, speed and structured data across each client site.

Below an agency norm, because the reporting here is written rather than generated. The number is set by what you can actually keep moving, and it gets revisited.

You will brief and edit content, but writing is a separate role. You should still be able to repair a weak paragraph or flag copy that breaks the page.

The monthly report states what changed, what happened in calls and forms, and what will be worked on next. It also separates confirmed results from observations that still need more evidence, so the client can see what is known.

A bad quarter is addressed plainly in the report and on the client call. You explain what you think caused the result and what you are changing, so both the account record and the conversation cover the cause and the next action.

Your say over what gets sold is substantial and increases as you take responsibility for accounts. Once you hold those accounts, proposals for an industry start from what you have seen work, giving your direct account experience a clear role in shaping them.
