About the role

This role sits between the keyword research and the writing. You work out which questions a client should own, in what order, and how the pages link to each other so the set is worth more than the parts.

You do not write most of it. You brief it, you check it against the brief, and you decide when a page should be updated instead of a new one being added.

There is no application window on this role. It is open until it is filled.

People in this role work on Seed Light's SEO projects.

Responsibilities

  • Turn keyword research into a publishing plan with an order and a reason
  • Map topics into clusters, and plan the links between them
  • Write briefs a writer can follow without asking what is wanted
  • Audit existing content: what to update, what to merge, what to leave
  • Track what each piece produced, and feed that back into the plan

Requirements

  • You have planned content that went on to rank, and can point at it
  • You understand search intent well enough to tell two similar keywords apart
  • You write briefs that are specific rather than a word count and a keyword
  • You can edit hard without rewriting the whole thing
  • You know when publishing more is the wrong answer

Nice to have

  • You have built a topical map for a site from nothing
  • You have worked with AI drafting and know where it fails
  • You have run a content audit that ended in pages being cut

Tools

Ahrefs or Semrush, Search Console, Google Docs, Looker Studio, Screaming Frog. The licences and subscriptions the job needs are paid for, and knowing every one of these already is not expected.

Your first three months

  • Month 1. A content audit on two accounts, ending in a keep, update and merge list.
  • Month 2. A twelve-month publishing plan for each, with the first briefs written.
  • Month 3. You own what gets published across the accounts, and the reporting on it.

Questions about this role

Questions candidates usually ask before applying. If yours is not here, add it to the message box on the form.

The content writer produces the page or article. The SEO content strategist decides which piece is worth producing, what search question it answers, what evidence it needs and how it differs from pages that already rank.

Yes, for research and drafting. A person must check the facts, reasoning and wording before publication; unreviewed AI copy does not go live.

Yes. You will write briefs, make frequent edits and sometimes draft a piece where the subject needs your search knowledge.

Often, and that is the point. A twelve month plan is a direction rather than a contract, and what the first pieces produce decides what the next ones are.

Yes, the role may recommend publishing less. Updating or merging useful pages can be better than adding weak content, even when that reduces planned output.

You do, for the accounts you hold. If a client insists on an unsupported topic, you record the expected result so the final decision and outcome stay clear.
