Local SEO specialist

Full-time, contract or internship
Location
Remote, wherever you are
Experience
2+ years in local search
Hours
9am to 5pm Malaysia time

About the role

Many clients here serve a town, a district or a few branches, so how they show up in local results matters to them. This role owns that surface.

The work is unglamorous and it compounds: profiles filled in properly, categories chosen correctly, the same name and address everywhere it appears, reviews coming in steadily, and photos that are actually of the business.

This listing stays up while the role is open, and every application is read.

People in this role work on Seed Light's Local SEO projects.

Responsibilities

  • Set up and optimise Google Business Profiles, including the categories and services
  • Fix name, address and phone details across directories so they match
  • Build a review flow the client will actually keep using
  • Track map rankings by location, not as one national number
  • Handle suspensions, duplicate listings and merge requests

Requirements

  • You can show a local SEO project where visibility improved and explain the work involved
  • You know how categories, service areas and proximity really behave
  • You are patient with Google support and the reinstatement process
  • You are careful with details, because one wrong suite number undoes the work
  • You can explain to an owner why reviews cannot be bought

Nice to have

  • You have run local search for a multi-branch business
  • You have used a rank tracker that maps results by grid
  • Successfully handled a Business Profile reinstatement

Tools

Google Business Profile, Search Console, Local rank tracking, Directory platforms, GA4. The licences and subscriptions the job needs are paid for, and knowing every one of these already is not expected.

Your first three months

  • Month 1. An audit of every client profile, and the listing fixes that come out of it.
  • Month 2. Review flows live on the accounts that have none, and grid tracking in place.
  • Month 3. You own local search across the client base and report it by location.

Questions about this role

Questions candidates usually ask before applying. If yours is not here, add it to the message box on the form.

The local SEO role focuses mainly on Google, which is where the calls come from for current clients. Experience with other map platforms can still be relevant, and the application call will cover which listings and map services you have worked with.

The local SEO specialist builds the review flow and shows the client how to run it, rather than asking the client's customers for reviews directly. The application call will cover your experience creating that process and helping a client use it.

The SEO specialist owns the whole account across search, while the local SEO specialist focuses on maps, profiles, reviews, location pages and business listings. Bring a work example that shows how you approached local search work and where your responsibility began and ended.

We measure rankings by location, then connect them with calls, direction requests and other local actions. One national average can hide weak areas.

The local SEO specialist handles a suspended listing by checking the stated reason, collecting documents the business can supply and following Google's reinstatement process. The role must keep a record of what was submitted and any response received.

In-person work is occasional and is not a requirement of the role. For some Penang clients, you may need to check photographs or a service area in person, but those visits are limited to cases where that physical check is needed.
