Job description
Front end developer
- Employment
- Full time or contract
- Location
- Remote, Malaysia
- Experience
- 3 years or more building production interfaces
- Hours
- 9am to 5pm Malaysia time
About the role
A design file is an intention. This role is what makes it real on a four year old Android phone with a bad connection, which is the device a good part of the traffic actually arrives on.
The work is the detail everyone else skips: the spacing that holds at every width, the state nobody drew, the layout that does not jump while it loads, and the keyboard path through a form.
Responsibilities
- Build pages and components from a design file, to the pixel where it matters
- Make layouts hold up across screen sizes, browsers and older devices
- Keep pages fast: image weight, layout shift, and what blocks the first paint
- Build the states the design did not cover: empty, loading, error, too long
- Make things usable by keyboard and readable by a screen reader
Requirements
- Strong HTML and CSS, and you reach for the platform before a library
- Solid JavaScript, and React with TypeScript in a real project
- You test on actual devices rather than only in a desktop browser
- You know what causes layout shift and how to stop it
- You notice when a design will break at a width nobody drew
Useful, not required
- You have worked to a WCAG standard on a real project
- You have improved Core Web Vitals on a live site and can show the before
- You have built a component library other people used
Tools
React, TypeScript, Next.js, Tailwind CSS, Figma, Chrome DevTools, Git. The licences and subscriptions the job needs are paid for, and knowing every one of these already is not expected.
Your first three months
- Month 1. Components and pages on live projects, reviewed closely on the detail.
- Month 2. You build the front end of a whole site from the design file.
- Month 3. You set the front end standard here, including what gets checked before launch.
How to apply
Use the form on this page. Attach your CV and list three things you have worked on, with one line each on what you did. Every application is read by a person and gets an answer, usually within two weeks.
