About the role
Video is where most of the attention is now, and almost none of these clients can produce it well. They send phone footage. Your job is to turn that into something people finish watching.
Most of it is short: ad creative, reels, before and after, a founder talking to camera. The measure is whether it holds attention and produces a result, rather than how polished the transitions are.
Responsibilities
- Cut short video for Meta and TikTok, in sets so the hooks can be tested
- Add captions, cuts and pacing that hold attention on a muted phone screen
- Work with whatever the client sends, including footage shot badly
- Turn one shoot into several different edits rather than one
- Keep a tidy library so a clip can be found again six months later
Requirements
- A reel of short work we can watch, ideally including ads that ran
- You understand that the first second decides whether the rest is seen
- You are fast, because volume matters more here than polish
- You can cut to a brief and take an edit note without defending the original
- You caption properly, since most of this is watched with the sound off
Useful, not required
- You have edited video that ran as paid advertising and seen the numbers
- You can do simple motion graphics and text animation
- You have shot as well as edited, so you know what to ask a client for
Tools
CapCut, Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve, After Effects, Meta Ads Manager, Google Drive. The licences and subscriptions the job needs are paid for, and knowing every one of these already is not expected.
Your first three months
- Month 1. Edits against existing briefs for live campaigns, with close feedback on pacing and hooks.
- Month 2. You own the video output for a set of accounts, including the variations for testing.
- Month 3. You tell clients what to shoot, so the raw material stops being the limit.
